In the second volume of Patriots, Liza Byers has fled to New York City to escape her arranged marriage. Here she must learn to survive on her own as a barmaid in a busy tavern. Life as a young girl on her own is a lot harder than she imagined it would be, and more things fly out of control as the Revolutionary War rages in full swing. After a few deaths and petrifying experiences, she falls into a depression. However, one day a handsome young spymaster comes by and enlists her to be a courier for some intelligence gathering spies. Now working more fully in the cause her beloved friends are fighting for, she can find meaning and satisfaction in life...if she can survive.
