That Night at Grandpa's (And Other Scary Stories)
Each of the stories you are about to read are more than fifty percent true. Some parts you won't believe. Some stories are completely true.
Feel free to ask my kids which of these stories are true. They might tell you. They might not. They have firsthand knowledge of many of the sites and the people involved (many are still alive). I have had them ask, "Hey, dad, is that where (name of story) happened?" I have included photos (in the printed book) for proof.
I was going to include explanations describing how each story panned out. It just did not seem as fun. So, have you ever walked into a room, stepped into a wood, or smelled something and immediately felt transported to another place, time, or life? I have. That is what it was like writing these stories--a trip down memory lane of some scary moments in my life.
I rewrote these stories until my oldest son rated them as such: "As a story, I would rate it a 9, and for scariness, a 4." I was originally going to title the book, "Short And (Not-so) Scary Stories." It might have been a better title. I don't know. You be the judge. Enjoy.
