The Island nation of Vontis was once the mightiest country in the world but internal strife, greedy aristocrats, and envious nations all conspired to crumble it. This story follows Valarie a great beauty who through a tragic event of her past has come to disdain physical beauty. Yet she is recruited to the academy in attempt to help her tiny town find fortune. To complicate matters a tutor of taste called Clovis the Curator ensnares her in the study of unfettered passion.
