Her mother is murdered and her farher disappears. But this does not stop them especially with the Hosts (keepers of the peace,  perceptive, trained to spot friction between rulers before conflict starts) tracking their every move and her and her sister Boudicca trying to control the panic the first murder in 3 centuries has caused.
