She pulled the other chair out and sat down across from Stan Jordan. Kacy was still drawing a blank on conversation and decided to just start talking. "Hi, um look Im sorry for acting like such a-a-" "Meany." Jordan volunteered with a grin that made Kacy want to throttle him. She rolled her eyes. "Do I look like a four year old to you Jordan?" He became serious and studied her face for a moment. "I think its the way your hoodie hides your face. But I'd say at least a seven year old." He smiled again. "Jordan can you quit being an idiot for five minutes?" She said it without blinking. "One sec." He reached down and hit a button on his watch. "Ok go you got five minutes." "Thats it." Kacy pronounced and stood up to leave him. Stan Jordan grabbed her hand and held her back. "Kacy wait. Im sorry for being a jerk. Can we still talk?" Her pride told her to keep walking, but she forced herself to turn around. "I should really leave but Ill stay for a few seconds." "So what should we talk about?" He settled back and looked at her as she sat down again. "Keep pushing me Jordan. Ill leave you for real." She felt her emotions surging and swallowed to keep them in. Stan cocked his head to the side and pursed his lips. "Why do you hate me so bad?" Kacy shook her head. "I don't hate you." "You sure could've fooled me." She could feel the emotions trying to break out. "Why did you treat Alli like you did?" After her best friend is killed by a drunk driver, bullied introvert Kacy doesn't think she can keep going with life. A package from Alli after she died begins to comfort Kacy and she decides to give life another shot. Is there a reason to try to move on? Why is it so hard to be happy?

Football players are assholes. I know - my brother is their king. Older and annoyingly overprotective, he's the star quarterback at Santa Cruz High School. I love him, but everyone worships the air he breathes and it's suffocating. After a traumatic experience with a quarterback three years ago, I want nothing to do with boys and dating. All that matters is getting into college, so I ace my classes and sign up for my school's student ambassador program to boost my applications. Thankfully, I have my best friend, Harper, to get me through high school being overshadowed by my brother. My plans for a quiet, low-key senior year are destroyed when my brother's cocky, arrogant rival keeps butting into my life. Logan Hightower is a total player who expects me to drool at his feet while he uses me to burn my brother's game. If he thinks I'll fall for his gorgeous looks and shallow charms, he's totally mistaken. He'll never succeed because I hate football players.
