Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn are each ruled by a powerful royal family. Each of these regions rule over a "weaker" region. Kanto governs Kalos, Johto owns Sinnoh, while Hoenn rules Unova with an iron fist.
When the threat of war appears, the King of Kanto proposes to marry his eldest son Red with the eldest princess of Johto, Crystal. All seems to be going to plan, until an unexpected turn of events postpones the wedding.
