England, 1914. World War One is imminent. Across the nation, mothers and fathers are bidding goodbye to sons, sisters are waving farewell to brothers. Alice Goldstein and her twin brother Mathew are no exceptions, the siblings torn by the demands of the army desperate for brave young men to fight for the country. Through a series of diary entries from a later time, Alice documents the decision she has to make in order to save her brother not built for combat. Her decision, unknown to anyone, to take Mathew's place on the front line. She will see through the eyes of a man, see the unspeakable horrors boys barely out of school endure out in the trenches, the barracks and the battle grounds. She will need to muster all of her courage to survive the hell fires of war, to save her brother, to save herself. No one must ever find out her secret, no one must ever know. She must remain, the Secret Soldier. [This is a work of fiction, I take claim to any historical inaccuracies]
