It is 1515 in France and Judge Amadeus Rondelet vowed to rid Paris of the evil Gypsies. Catholic and a virtious attender of Notre Dame, Rondelet had not expected to be mentally seduced by one of the hated gypsies. Tormented by lust, he gives her a choice, to choose him or her pyre, to be his mistress or to burn at the stake.

Gwyneth had always felt connected to her faith, a higher power presiding over her.
