"So just like that. You're leaving?" For the first time ever, Ash doesn't appear to have all his thoughts controlled around me. He takes several steps forward, eyebrows twisted in worry.

My heart strikes my chest hard at his sudden closeness. He's crossing a line. He's never shown this kind of favour for me.

"I can't refuse my Father's wishes," I say, tilting my head upwards to meet his stare. Tonight, his usually clear green eyes smolder with something intense. They scream at me but I tell myself I'm imagining it.

"I don't want you to go." Ash's voice is like a whisper as he reveals an ounce of vulnerability.

But truly, he's the brave one between us. I could never admit our undeniable attraction. The thought of giving in is intoxicating. So much so, my chest suddenly feels heavy and haggard. I could never handle him. I'm afraid and a coward.

"You're a slave Ash," I remind him. And before I'm tempted to see the look on his face, I turn away quickly.
