This is a story of Henry and Sams past before meeting Joel and Ellie in Pittsburgh. The story begins with Henry at age 18, and Sam only 6 years old. This story takes place in Henry's point of view during the outbreak (in flashbacks), surviving Hartford, and protecting Sam through the struggles of the new apocalypse. The only thing Henry struggles with more than protecting his brother is his past, and his hopes for their future.
