Humans and Monsters have lived together for centuries. Monsters could blend in and live a normal life without the humans even knowing. When Humans started to find out that monsters are living among them, they formed a special agency that's specific job was to kill monsters. Scarlet's parents were killed by the agency when she was only 12 (1,200) years old, leaving her to raise her 5 younger siblings on her own. I understand that this is more or less the same plot line as 17% (minimum) of all books on the planet, but seriously, if you want to have a 12-year-old (almost) burn down/melt half a castle, this is your book.
