Maria Makarov is just an innkeeper's daughter in the oppressed kingdom of Lythia. An inkeeper's daughter that is being married off to a man she doesn't care for. But one day, a mysterious young man is found, collapsed in a pool of blood outside of the inn. After running to her childhood friend, now a doctor, for help, the two of them soon discover that the boy is not your average boy. He's an Ityrian, a race thought to be long extinct.
