A war has been going on ever since she was born, and not a normal one at that. Alex's otherwise peaceful planet Quetni is under attack, by aliens. The price Alex paid was her father, and a few years later, she lost her mother as well. Orphaned at seven years old, Alex has practically had to raise herself, as her abusive "aunt" and "uncle" didn't do it so well.
Not long after Alex turned sixteen, "aunt" Cordelia had finally had enough and kicked her out. Soon enough, Alex decided she wasn't going to continue living on the streets and left everything behind.
"I was going to join the resistance and help protect my planet.
I was going to fight.
I was probably going to die.
But, you know what? I didn't care."

By the way, she meets Ezra, the new student in school. After this meeting, Hayley starts seeing the truths about aliens; why they are really here.
