Lilac is 16. Her mind set is being different from others. Not fitting in. She pushes herself forward to be so different than others that when a time might come where something magical happens she will be picked automatically. 

She has the obscured thought that maybe...her life would be different. It wouldn't be you are born, you live, you learn, you cherish, you die. It would be unique. She had this hope that maybe..maybe there's a chance she can make that happen...who says she can't try?
