It's been ten years since Arthur has died, Camelot being put into the Dark Ages once more. Affecting every single person in the five kingdoms. Especially Merlin.
After Arthur died, after Merlin failed to fulfill his destiny, he retreated into the same cave his father hid in. He failed. He failed Arthur. Camelot. Himself. There was nothing left for him there.
