The Hunger Games and love aren't two things you'd usually put next to eachother in a sentence, right?
Well, that's what I thought, until I was reaped for the 100th Hunger Games and was stuck in an arena with someone who I couldn't help but fall for.
You see, getting reaped was never something I considered, quite honestly. I'd never thought about what I'd do in an arena with twenty-three individuals, who were mostly bigger and stronger than me, having to fight to the death.
In all the years that I'd watched the Hunger Games, it had never dawned on me that it could be me in there, battling for my life. It could be me trying to survive another day, a day that meant I could see my family again.
Who I was didn't make it easy to avoid the Games, though.
My mother is Katniss Everdeen. My father is Peeta Mellark. And, unfortunately, I turned seventeen on the Fourth Quarter-Quell. The Quarter-Quell where the only tributes are those of the Victor's children.
How the heck am I going to get through this when I have to kill the guy I love?

We all know the story of the Mockingjay Rebellion. Sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen volunteers for her twelve year old sister for this event called The Hunger Games where twenty four children fight to the death and only one comes out as victor. A boy named Peeta Mellark was reaped alongside her. These two come out of the games as "Starcrossed Lovers". This caused a few uprisings in some districts. President Snow doesn't want another rebellion so he sends Katniss and Peeta back into the games with other Victors from each district. This causes a whole other war and this time, the districts pull out on top. The Hunger Games are ended and Snow is executed and everyone is safe again. Yeah, let's fast foward about fifty years. When I was eleven. My whole world changed. Katniss' dad died in a mining accident. You think it wouldn't affect me but I loved him just as much as Katniss did. Maybe even more than I loved my own father. I felt bad, that my own dad couldn't compare to Katniss'. He loved me too though. Loved me like his own. The day he died was the first in a long line of times I have ever seen Katniss cry. She never cried before then but she cried a lot after. Katniss' mother was suppose to get a job after his passing, she didn't. They were starving, dying. I decided to help. After school I would drag Katniss into the woods by her feet. We'd never gone in there without her father. It seemed like a scarier place without him. After some time it wasn't so scary. I don't know what made me volunteer for Katniss. When I heard her name echo throughout the crowd my heart stopped. It wasn't my name, but it was my best friends. There was no way she could survive in there. She had a family, a sister to take care of. I thought my parents could live without me. The name Effie called next was the only name I prayed and prayed I would never hear her say. Peeta Mellark.
