The Hunger Games and love aren't two things you'd usually put next to eachother in a sentence, right?
Well, that's what I thought, until I was reaped for the 100th Hunger Games and was stuck in an arena with someone who I couldn't help but fall for.
You see, getting reaped was never something I considered, quite honestly. I'd never thought about what I'd do in an arena with twenty-three individuals, who were mostly bigger and stronger than me, having to fight to the death.
In all the years that I'd watched the Hunger Games, it had never dawned on me that it could be me in there, battling for my life. It could be me trying to survive another day, a day that meant I could see my family again.
Who I was didn't make it easy to avoid the Games, though.
My mother is Katniss Everdeen. My father is Peeta Mellark. And, unfortunately, I turned seventeen on the Fourth Quarter-Quell. The Quarter-Quell where the only tributes are those of the Victor's children.
How the heck am I going to get through this when I have to kill the guy I love?

The Victory Tour? Over. The Quarter Quell? Over. Katniss's life? Over, as far as Peeta knows. Sure, the games may be over for Katniss and Peeta, but the real battle is only just beginning. The Rebels in District 13 managed to get 3 Victors out of the arena. Peeta Mellark, Finnick Odair, and Beetee Latier are seemingly safe in the depths of 13. Katniss Everdeen, Johanna Mason, Enobaria, and Annie Cresta are seemingly dead in the custody of the Capitol. They're being held prisoners, having God-knows-what done to them. But one day it comes and knocks on his door and he's forced to redeem it as much as he can. this is the story of his downward spiral, redemption and attempts to fix his mistakes. AUTHOR'S NOTE: pretty much all of this story is from Gale's perspective. and it doesn't have a Gale x Katniss relationship, just friendship. I think that the end of Gale's story was unfulfilling. The story is set during the time period of "The Hunger Games" (book one of the trilogy). It is written from the perspective of Gale Hawthorne, and does not concern any events in books two and three. This is my first fan fiction, my first "real" attempt at long form prose writing, and my first Wattpad story. I appreciate constructive feedback, but please, no hate. While the characters and some plot points are based off of Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games Trilogy, (which I in no way own the rights to) I have created this story using my own imagination. Katniss Everdeen is married to Peeta Melllark the love of her life and are back in district twelve. Coin kept the games and Prim is still dead. Mrs. Everdeen lives in katniss's old victor home and is a grandmother to twins. Diana Mellark and Finnick Mellark. Gale lives in district two with his own family. Haymitch is a grandfather because he married Katniss's mom after all they went through. Katniss and Peeta's kids are very different. Diana is like Katniss and has her skills with a bow and arrow and hunting. She has her father's talent with a sword, painting, and baking. Finnick on the other hand is like his aunt Prim and grandmother. He likes to take care of people. The story starts with Diana as a seventeen-year-old on the day of the reaping of the 99th hunger games. The Mellarks have a track record for being in love with their district partner. Will it happen again with one of their kids. Also Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch don't have to be mentors. I don't own the characters of the original hunger games.
