Violet is not your typical teenage girl who hangs out with her friends and has happy life. In fact, that is far from the reality she lives. Her father barely cares for the family and is having an affair. Her older brother Hayden refuses to speak to her ever since Violet decided to live with her uncle and his wife. She thought she would be happier living with someone who has been there for her since she was young. Turns out she is just as unhappy there as she was at her old home. Her aunt is constantly having affairs while the uncle is away at work and steals money from the savings jar. The worst of that, her own uncle sends her away to an asylum after Violet attempts to harm the aunt. Her uncle had promised her that she would be happier living with him and that he would protect her no matter what happens. Her brother had promised he would be there for her no matter what, he rarely talks to her now. Her father promised he would keep the family safe and happy, he ended up ignoring them and having an affair. The love of her life had promised he would never hurt her and save her from the bad reality, he left her alone and found someone new. Violet is convinced that the world is filled with broken promises but soon learns something different.
