Samantha is an American high school student who is in her senior year. Her school, Lindfield High, has a sister school in Sydney, Australia where they have set up an exchange program.

Every year, a select number of students in their senior year travel to the land down under to stay with a host family for 3 weeks to learn the lifestyle and cultural aspects of each others countries. As this exchange is organised by the english teachers, the students are required to write letters to each other once a week for three months before they depart for their trip.

What happens when Sam's host families get mixed up and she finds out that she is staying with 18 year old Aussie Surfer boy Finn Gallager? Will she still be allowed to stay with him? Will they be friends or something more?
