He was a caretaker to three of his younger siblings that he dubbed his 'kids.' The same children that appeared at the foot of his door one night, no hide or hair of anybody seen to have placed the children on his doorstep. He was quick to take them in early on, hadn't batted an eyelash before laying on the bed with the children in his arms.
"Kaa-chan! Kaa-chan! Happy Birthday!" violet eyes twinkled at him.
"Naruto, be my partner for the Uchiha festival. Let's watch the fireworks together," the Uchiha had spoken with so much love.
Despite the constant neglect and abuse the village gave him, he still loved them unconditionally.
When he had given a promotion, he did needn't worry about affording necessities anymore. Whereas before, he had to scrap at corners to make ends meet.
Even on the worst of days, he had still loved his Kage and the village unconditionally.
But on the day when thunderclouds rolled in, inconspicuous words had threatened the existence of his precious people and the life he built up for them. He would protect his village, as he had promised to himself.
And-
When the ocean closed in and caressed his toes, pulling itself apart again in a long time to welcome back the child of its lost princess, he had wept at the loss of his people and wasted time. He paused, thinking of all the things he gave up for the village.
"Come home, Naruto. To the kingdom that your damned village turned its back on. Your birthright!" The wind whipped at his clothes and kissed his cheek, whispers of fate and destiny gargling from the rush of water.
Could he still forgive the village for all it had done?
