"Come on, Mary Jane," Gavin said, leaning against the tombstone. Mary Jane was sure there was something tragically ironic about a dead man leaning on his on grave, idly twirling roses left for his corpse in his fingers. "Tell me how I did it. Tell me how I'm not dead. Come on, MJ. Play the game." Gavin Braxton had lived next door to Mary Jane Ward for six years. That is, until a car crash one year ago cracked his skull and killed him in an instant. Well, that was what Mary Jane thought. That was what everyone thought. But Gavin was never one to go down easy, and one night, he called Mary Jane to meet him at the cemetery, at midnight. The hour of creepy rendezvous. And, just like that, Gavin Braxton no longer belonged in the department of being dead. He was very much alive. He was sitting on his own tombstone, grinning like he owned the world, not at all caring that he was standing on an empty grave with his name on the headstone. Not at all caring that he was going to cause Mary Jane Ward all sorts of trouble.

Shadows

"You know it won't go to the West," he said dropping his voice. "Maybe you're wrong. Who knows," she shrugged. Her shoulders had slumped but she had managed to not let any tears spill. "Baum knew what he was doing when he made the West wicked, Mary," he hissed. "The East was wicked in that book too, dumbass," Mary retorted. Jacob's hands went into fists to keep from pushing at his hair. The tree behind them began to shake slightly. The ground gave a tiny rumble. *************************************************** Mary's father recently passed. But she is finding out it might not have been from natural causes... Family adversaries threaten everything while influential other worldly authorities pull the strings. Mary will have to work with an unlikely ally from her childhood to navigate their new found powers and reclaim balance. Meanwhile... one dark soul is climbing the ladder of chaos. Feel free to leave a message. I love comments! As the story progresses you might notice some subtle (and not so subtle) parallels to the Wizard of Oz. As I always advise my students- give it three chapters before setting it aside. Thanks for reading and enjoy! ☺️ This book is in a perpetual state of needing editing. I hope to return to the chapters to add some details. I'm hoping for a sequel as time allows. Oh, the life a middle school teacher... MORE TIME, I NEED MORE TIME. ‼️‼️Warning: Mild Language Please be advised.
