When the British surrendered Singapore over to the Japanese on the 15th of February 1942, it began a 4-year struggle for survival for the people.
Now, before the war, there is a family called the Queks, one of the most influential and successful Peranakan families in the business industry.
The day before her 16th birthday, Germaine Janet Quek is crushed when Japanese storm into her home, demanding that she and her family move out of it as it had become the property of the Japanese, the troop being led by Sergent Major Hamamoto Ryuunosuke.
Outraged, Germaine puts up a tough fight much to the horror of her family but when a gun is placed to the head of her beloved sister's she makes a deal with the man who wants her house.
And he takes it.

"Stay in here, Germaine and no matter what you hear," Ryu warns me, holding me by my shoulders as I weakly attempt to in my heavily pregnant state get off of the floor of the closet. "Do not come out."
"If you think that after dragging me away from my home, forcing me to marry you and making me fall in love with you in the three years of our marriage, I would leave your side," I huff irritatedly as I use him as leverage to stand up. "You've got another thing coming for you, Major Hamamoto!"
Nixon is the 3rd book in the Broken Series. (Ryan is the 1st, Brynn is the 2nd)

He quickly becomes addicted to the girl and once he gets one taste he's done for. He warns her about his past, about his name, but she ignores all the red flags, not realizing exactly how intertwined she is with the people from his past. He becomes enamored with her, feels like she was made for him while still battling the demons of his past and soon it all becomes too much for him to handle. He makes a heartbreaking decision, thinking it's what's best for both of them and everything changes.
