One hundred and fifty years after the war, the United States is a weak power. In a desperate last minute formation of alliances and secret treaties, the world declares war for a third time and this time freedom will be all but annihilated. Seventeen year old Cameron Vanator does not think the battle will come to him, but when his hometown and the surrounding civilizations are ambushed by the enemy and the inhabitants are massacred by the thousands, Cameron must take to the vast forests of Virginia with his archenemy, the prettiest, smartest, wittiest, and most intimidating girl of her age. The years of survival, war, and internal struggle are coming fast and Cameron and his supposed nemesis must be prepared to face them, if they are to emerge from the conflict alive.

A watcher keeps lonely vigil from within a fortress that has been under siege for hundreds of years, while a soldier dies for the twenty-third time, and dies again while wondering if he is going mad. First started in 2015, this story is at 50k+ words, but was removed when a plotting hiccup was encountered. I now intend to split it into three parts, and this is the complete Part 1.
