When Jack Gibson becomes infected with The Red Plague, turning him into a so-called Zombie, his life suddenly gets complicated. Kara, his cheerleader girlfriend, dumps him. Then, after a Zombie riot, his mother decides the city is too dangerous and drags him back to Osborne, the hick town where she grew up.
Things go from bad to worse as Jack learns the town is being run by Garret Sweeney, a psychotic preacher with the hots for his mother. As it turns out, the preacher has a few secrets of his own, and will stop at nothing to get his way... not even murder.
When Jack discovers that rock music helps him think more clearly, things start to look up for him and he even decides to help some of the other Zombies at his new school. But he can't seem to win for losing, because it only gets him in more hot water with Garret.
How long can Jack hide his secret?
Who can a Zombie trust?
Will he be able to stop Garret before it's too late?

I burst into laugher, still to their horror. "Good one." I chuckle. Jack raises his sharp eyebrows. "You're fucked up, City Boy." He says. "Kieran." I say. "Bless you." He responds quickly. "No that's my name. Kieran." I elaborate. "Like the coffee maker?" He asks. "What? No, not Kierig, Kieran." I repeat. "Key ring." Jack says. I sigh. "I'm bein' serious as all outdoors, I can't say it." Jack says. "Maybe because you talk like a weed whacker." I say. Jack looks taken back by my comment. "You're funny. I like you...Kerin?" Jack says. "Keep trying." I say. "Jack, why don't you help Kieran settle into his room?" Roger suggests putting so much emphasis on my name, I almost forget how to say it. "You mean my room? Sure thing, Father." Jack huffs. Wait... I have to share a room with that thing? He looks like he bites. "Don't worry, Kieran. He don't bite." Roger assures me. This is a second view point from my original story - A Different Virus - Heartfire. I highly advise reading the original book first. Intro: Laura was a happy child without a care in the world. Her parents grew worried and stocked the house in case of a pandemic. Months later another virus appeared. Her family was shocked when the news people started reporting that zombies were actually real and not just part of a horror movie. They were appearing in every country. Her parents reassured her that none of the zombie sightings had been anywhere close to them. Her life is turned upside down when her father ends up in hospital with the bad flu and mother exiles her upstairs for her safety. She was never allowed downstairs again. Weeks pass and the streets become deserted with the exception of the red eyed zombies that wandered around. One night she notices a swiftly moving figure with glowing blue eyes in the street below. Should she call out or remain silent? In the words of a great philosopher; there is no limit to the gruesome and grotesque things we are willing to do in the name of survival. While reading this; Remember that not everything is as it seems. Remember that loved characters will die. Remember that the world will gradually get worse as the parts go on. Take a moment to ask yourselves these questions: What would you do in the name of survival? Would you steal to survive? Would you kill to survive? Would you lose your mind to survive? If you lost your mind, do you think you'd kill more, steal, injure, backstab, rape or any other atrocity you can think of? If you can think of it, then maybe you would. The characters and situations in this book are very real, if gore or horrific mental images scare you, then I wouldn't recommend reading far. Jack had almost hurt, or even killed, his friends by accidentally tripping over a curb and creating a massive blizzard. The Guardians were furious since the children's lives were momentarily put in serious danger by one of their own. After a heated argument between Jack and the others, he ran off. He was sick and tired of them not listening to him, always accusing him of something he didn't do, or in this case, unintentionally did. He went to his home again, but in the woods and out of sight. He ran into a witch, who he didnt even know lived there. She begged for some assistance in finding some herbs. Jack, however, declined the offer. She persisted, and that annoyed Jack. He had already been going through enough and this old witch wasn't helping. He then yelled at her to leave him be and to find her own "stupid plants". The witch wasn't happy, in fact, his blind rudeness angered her. So, she cursed him to mortality for 3 months. If he didn't learn how to handle hardships and what it's like being a human in that time frame, he would die. Jack soon meets an unexpected rescuer who takes him in and cares for him. Not only is he fighting against time, but the Boogyman decides to make Jack a target. Will he learn his lesson? Or will he die in 3 months time? If he is to survive, what will happen next? "No! Please no!" she begged. "I told you to do what I say! Now suffer the consequence!" Her father grabbed her hair and shoved her towards the bed. Her head got hit by the wall and it hurt like hell. She whimpered but as if her father didn't hear it he continued to grab her once again. "Father, please" She cried" "Now you have the guts to call me father huh? I should do this more often" She tried to run but he was able to catch her in his strong hands. "NO!" She kicked him and bit his hands but to no avail. He gripped her wrist and tied it towards the bed. "Don't protest daughter or it'll excite me even more" She escaped from home and welcomed hell into her life. Every night she felt pain all over her body. Her adopter lambasted her mercilessly until she was in deep darkness. An opportunity came and she immediately took it. She thought she was already safe, but another chaos awaits her in the outside world. Every fiber of her body beg for her to give up. But this doesn't mean her life was full of misery. While she hides herself from the darkness, she founds light. Back by popular request! The 2017 rough draft of The Virus Within! (Caution: Contains massive plotholes that were fixed in the polished The Virus Within Series. Grammar issues are present, particularly missing commas.) What do you do when you are one of the infected? The virus in my blood is trying to steal my humanity. It alters my very thoughts and reactions. It taunts me by tempting me with desires that it planted in my brain. These bloodthirsty desires would lead to my demise if I ever gave in. I have more in common with the zombies than with humans at this point. Even the fallen zombies accept me as one of their own. Blood is required to retain my grip on sanity, but the sweet-smelling blood from humans is a short path to madness. Human blood is to be avoided at all costs. Humankind around the world was driven close to extinction by the sudden appearance of the zombies, yet small groups of survivors constantly manage to appear and put my control to the test. -------------------------- This is a standalone zombie book. It has nothing to do with A Different Virus. I wanted to try a book with an easily irritated main character and a nutcase secondary character. This book has a slightly darker outlook at the beginning than my usual stories, but it has some humor further along.
