What did the systems analyst say to the television producer? I love it when you call me Big Data.

Happy Path is what happens when a 20-year broadcasting career is cut short and opportunity comes knocking in the guise of a charismatic boss who leads an IT banking unit. In a single day, Molly is cut loose from her complacency as a promotions producer for a major television network and is offered a soft landing that's sold as a time-filler while she figures out what to do with her working life. Not fully understanding the job she's accepted, our protagonist embarks on a journey that immerses her in a workplace foreign exchange.

When I lost my job and took up with a group of coders and system architects, I had to learn a whole new language while also adapting to the idiosyncrasies of corporate banking. My disbelief at what I was experiencing on a daily basis, coupled with the fact that there wasn't a single soul who could relate to my perspective, compelled me to record the most bizarre of circumstances. I learned my personal limits and broke my brain. I misunderstood almost everything and related to nothing, awed by profound personal struggle and the sheer madness of my situation. The story is about insight, perseverance and some of the richest situational comedy of my life.

If I had to summarize, I'd say Happy Path constitutes observational humor with a personal bent. If I had to dig a little deeper, I'd say Happy Path is a laughable take on a mid-life crisis set against the juxtaposed backdrops of financial technology and the changing media landscape.

"So, let me get this straight. You stomped all over his paperwork?" She started. "Not intentionally, but yes," I confirmed it. "Threw a drink in his face?" She added. "Expensive red wine." I described. "Rammed into his car with yours deliberately?" she counted on her third finger. "Um...I'm not proud of that one," I said cringing. "And called him offensive names?" She ended the list and I winced. "Twice." I specified. "And you're still alive?" She blinked, looking genuinely surprised. "Geez, don't be dramatic or anything..." I frowned at her hyperbolic statement. "Maybe he's keeping you around to get revenge." She suggested. Possible. I wouldn't put it past him. "I didn't know alright!" I exclaimed. "Let's hope that excuse is acceptable.." She was merely amused. The Moving Times Of Caroline Proudly by CarolineProudly
20 parts Complete
Caroline is 16 when she suddenly decides that her perfectly normal and loving home life is absolutely and completely intolerable. Suddenly moving out of home in 1988 is the beginning of a 13 year journey. As the journey continues, the passage of time has no significance. Always with the ability to find the humorous side, each address marks another chapter in Caroline's life and is the backdrop for the people she meets and the events that occur. Accommodation varies from unheated rooms and houses with wheel-less cars jacked-up outside to Regency flats and rural cottages. Transportation means vary from a single use bicycle, to Betsa and the faithful Dwanetta. Flatmates vary from a lovely Brummie and a singing nun to a dying dog, a ginger laminator, a 3 nippled geek and an accidental spell with a local drugs baron. Events vary from harbouring boarding schoolgirls, exercising racehorses, the occasional rave, trading in shampoo and marmite on toast to looking for stolen laundry, going undercover and self-defence with a hockey stick. Jobs vary from not having one to shop work, bartending and au pair through to getting a toe on the corporate ladder. There is infatuation, and love from various sources so there is also disappointment, and breakups by varying means and for various reasons. Education varies from a bit of formal study to a large dollop of the University of Life. The latter being the real reason Caroline left home in the first place - to grow up in her own way through her own experiences with no-one else to blame but herself and the interesting hand that life deals along the way. Caroline moves home 19 times, only to find that the 20th move takes her to the last place she ever expected to be. Back where she started. Things aren't always as they seem...

26 parts Complete Mature
Miles Hoàng's life is perfect. He has the perfect best-friend-slash-boyfriend-slash-bane-of-his-existence, Ziri Meziani. They live in a perfect (if a little cramped) apartment above a Nepalese restaurant they get food from at a discount whenever they're both too lazy to cook. He has a perfect (meaning decent) job with a nice (meaning decent) boss and cool (meaning decent) coworkers at an Amazon warehouse - which means he has to listen to people's complaints about their deliveries being late every time he bothers to socialise as if that's something he has any control over. And sure, his family still think being gay is a phase he'll grow out of. And he has to listen to debates about how queer marriage will irrevocably destroy British society every time he tries to watch the news. And panic attacks start pouncing on him without warning when he's supposed to be the normal one. But otherwise, his life is perfect. Miles has compartmentalised his mind with an efficiency his recovering-hoarder-become-neat-freak mother would be proud of. If somebody were to walk into his mind, they would find a clean house full of natural sunlight and not much else. His grandparents are in one room, his dad's coffin in another, his mother asleep in the third. Even Ziri - especially Ziri - is quarantined from the rest because sometimes there are roars in the basement no amount of music can cover up and Miles has no plan of inviting anyone down those stairs. Until he crams the basement so full that demons start climbing out. Turns out, the walls between his compartments are paper mache. [manxman] [new adult general fiction]
