Kristina Freeman is going to High School. It is very new and different from Chester Circle Middle School. In fact, Kristina moved from Washington to California for High School. Kristina's mom had been fired and they moved in hopes to find another job for her. Kristina's dad was in the Army, stationed in Canada. With a war raging just outside her state, Kristina doesn't know if her dad is dead or alive. He's never answered any of her letters.
In the midst of the crisis, Kristina finds out a terrible secret about her mom that drives her to take herself and her brother, Asher, on a wild adventure that will possibly tear their relationship with their father apart.
