Lost and broken from old school bullies, William Solace moves to a new school. In terror, he realizes that he only gives birth to a whole new cycle of pain, but this time, to another.
Nico panics in the knowledge of knowing his school bully is about to invade one of his only safe spots, camp. How had no satyr found the golden-haired boy before he reached sixteen? Why did the fates have so much out for the both of them?

Evil lurks behind the shadows for both the boys. A revolution, like many others before, is hungry for a power to harness. They've set their eye on two certain individuals who could lead them to their right fitted glory.

Nico di Angelo is finally happy. He's learning to accept himself for his sexuality and as a son of Hades. After everything horrible that has happened to him, he's slowly getting better with the help of Will and his friends. Will Solace finally got the boy of his dreams. The boy he had a crush on since he was 11 years old. He's starting to realize that he isn't as useless as he thinks he is, and that he's actually worth something. Everything is going great for a while. But just like it always is for demigods, nothing good ever lasts. The death of Nico's first and closest friend Jason Grace puts a sudden end to the sunshine that currently brightens Nico's life for once. His death triggers a lot of things for him, and shines light on a lot of his unresolved trauma. Will Nico be able to make it through this without his mental stability completely breaking once and for all? Will Nico be able to let people in enough to help him get through it? And what about the mysterious dreams that Nico keeps having of his mom? And who really is this little girl that knows nothing about her past? In this sequel to Out of the Shadows, Nico sees familiar faces and revisits past places, but at least this time he has Will along for the ride.
