"Your such a dirtbag," she mumbled as he walked away. She being Bethany Sperry and he being Ian Thomas. Bethany is your typical high school student: average grades (A-B), plays on the track team, and socially active. See average but Ian Thomas is what you call how do you put it nicely, an egotistic dirtbag. Ya that's about as nice as it gets. Bethany gets caught up in Ian's path when she gets herself stuck at a college party. Yes college. Her friends took her out and left her to go and have some of their own 'fun'.
