“Care to find out why you're a fatherless son of a bitch?”

That was the question posed to Drystan the night before he was to again swear his undying loyalty to the Church of Junan and join the ranks of the Inquisition, tasked with investigating, hunting down, and placing on trial witches and heretics alike. The woman asking it was an Inferi, a member of the infamous Antenox, an order of enigmatic men and women who hunted down heretics of a different sort.

It may have simply been because he was drunk that night—four flagons of ale on a fasting stomach made men do some awfully stupid things. Or perhaps it was that he really had, after seventeen years of not caring at all, developed an interest in finding out why he had been abandoned on the doorstep of a Rectory as a newborn babe. Either way, Drystan dropped everything, boarded the first boat he had ever ridden in his life, and never looked back.

He arrived at his ancestral home and found it in the thrall of a man with a perverse fascination with re-stringing the threads of life itself. Neither the Inferi hunting the madman nor Drystan himself could have predicted that would happen when the ever-apathetic Inquisitor recruit decided to join them in their hunt into the city of the dead and beyond.

Where Lost Things Dwell: Night Creatures Book Two by ALMcGurk
16 parts Ongoing Mature
After five years hunting down the vampires who had killed her family, living alone, outside society, Kalyna had finally found a home. She had signed up as a trainee with the Occult Task Force, a cross-species military branch where supernaturals and humans fought together against the darkest forces threatening this and every world in existence. Not only that, but she'd finally put her trust in someone; the amber and honey-eyed Staff Sergeant Dunstan Eorl, the vampire who'd held her together when no one else could. Her first problem...? The sire who'd enslaved Dunstan and tortured him for four hundred years now had her sights on Kalyna, asking that Dunstan trade her freedom for that of his wife; a wife he'd thought had died centuries earlier, but who had actually shared his grim fate. Not only that, but his sire, Laelia, seemed to be working with a cult who had no qualms about sacrificing people to open a 'door' and welcome their Lord. Her second problem? No one knew what or where the door was, who the cult worshipped, or why they needed Kalyna. Maybe the answer to that led back to her strange heritage, which included more supernatural strains than should have been possible, andr which had given her more instinctual magic than anyone could fathom. She hadn't even scratched the surface of what she was, but she feared that by the time she understood where she came from, it might be too late to save herself from the target painted on her back, or from the magnetism that drew misfortune toward her with unerring regularity. She was beginning to feel like a liability. Like perhaps her bad luck would eventually get someone else killed.
A machine's guide to Divinity by Slab_Marksman

Violence, Fraud. All gone. And with Treachery soon to follow. The machines are decimating everything in its path and Hell itself is on the verge of being wiped out. Or so it seems. Hell was aware of its layers being destroyed, but it didn't care for it had much bigger, grander plans for the future. Letting the machines kill the husks and the demons, Hell was gathering mass and energy from the deceased denizens residing in itself to prepare an attack so great and powerful, that Heaven itself would descend into chaos. Then Hell would take over. The cycle of agony shall be born anew and this time, No angel or machine would interfere with it. Hell would now have the entire universe as its domain. It relished the fact that it would watch the sufferings of the so-called 'divine', fulfilling its twisted and sadistic desires using them. However, there was a minor problem in Hell's plan that could cripple itself if left unchecked. A supreme machine known as V1 had survived the decade-long war in Treachery, and the archangel Gabriel still stood, albeit being a husk, with his holy light 'gone'. These two could grow to be massive threats. Hell already knew their capability far exceeded those that were deemed Supreme demons. To guarantee success, Hell would have to intervene and relocate them to a place far, far away. And it did exactly that, Sabotaging Gabriel and sending V1 and the archangel into an unknown place far beyond its layers. Deep, deep into space, into the Exoplanets of the Copper system. Now the duo must prepare themselves for a battle, a climax that will determine their, and their world's survival, lest the inferno will spread evermore, its flames beginning anew. -Dedicated to Thonker the'Throngler'Chonker and 'Assgobler'. -WORR, WORW retelling and expansion

With an extended period of downtime on her hands, Cordelia finds a new friend in an odd place, only this next week will turn out to be one of the most formative in her young life... This story is fanfiction of a D&D campaign I play in, and is mostly for my own self indulgence, it does not serve as a gateway into the deep lore of Project Inheritance, but rather, a whole lot of fluff. This (very self indulgent) story is based on Project Inheritance, a closed homebrew D&D 5e campaign I play in. The world is undergoing a period of strife as the Raxan Rebels (a group much larger and more powerful than the name 'rebel' would suggest) are now powerful enough to be toppling governments. At the same time, the lines between realities are growing thin, and the natural order is shifting as realms begin to merge. Every person in this world also has an 'Inheritance' (although in universe they are simply called 'things') which is a curse or ability they gain at birth. These are generally useless, or even hindrances. (examples include addiction to eating rocks, or waking up with a different number of eyes after a long rest.) The Party: Cordelia 'Cordy' Irvine: A child half-elf who joined the party after they failed to protect her caretaker on an escort mission. With no home to return to, Cordelia (already used to being somewhat of a feral child) travels with the group, as she begins to learn more about her mysterious and absent mother, and her own unique abilities. Oakley: An elf who was raised in the fey wilds. He travels with his friend Libro as a sword-for-hire Libro: A crossbreed of several races, Libro travels with his friend Oakley in search of knowledge and new stories Scott: An Aasimar who fled the Raxan Rebels after witnessing the atrocities they were committing, he now works as a mercenary Aster: A Firbolg in search of a safe home for his entire family. He's a simple man with an interesting past.

--Completed-- "Why are you following me?" "I am free to roam anywhere within Barracks, am I not?" "Aldaire will be displeased if he sees us together." He grins, leaning in close to whisper in my ear. "Will he? Last time I checked, you two are merely playing a part." I place a finger on his lips, acutely aware of our proximity yet taken aback by it all. "Don't utter such things. They can hear you." "So it is true. I wasn't present that day, but Himley made sure to fill me in." There's no need to persist with the charade, but if I concede too readily, I'm not fulfilling my role adequately. This is going to be challenging, especially given his annoying demeanor. "I don't know what you're talking about. Aldaire is a noble man." "Then how do his lips taste?" Hiccup! "That is none of your concern, sir." "Why do you take offense? It was an innocent question." "It was not! I am inebriated. Why are you pursuing me? And be honest this time. If you intend to kill me like the rest, I'll make things easier for you." His silence prompts me to look up. His lips are drawn into a thin line as he glares at me. "Do you hold me in such low regard?" "I don't know you," I retort. "That is why I am here. We can acquaint ourselves with each other." His laughter reverberates in the empty space, prompting a grin from me. It makes me blush at the thought. Perhaps it's the alcohol causing me to hallucinate, but the idea of someone vying for my affections is amusing. "I relish challenges, Lady Leizabeth. Give me some time, and you'll see." "I don't understand why." "Because you are a fascinating woman. The moment I laid eyes on you, I knew I had to get to know you." **In the journey of life, we stumble upon love twice. The first shatters your heart into countless fragments; the second conjures up the power of the universe to piece it back together. **

Vex Chronicles 1: Infection

25 parts Complete

An old message alerts Ordo Xenos inquisitor Ilvex "Vex" Tamruth of a genestealer infection on the agrarian world or Eredius III. But he is unaware that a much larger threat hides behind his prey. He and his allies soon have to fight for sheer survival, just to earn a chance to stop their enemy's plans. This is the first of my inquisitor Vex stories in the Warhammer 40000k universe. Originally envisioned as a short story about a genestealer cultist joining an inquisitorial retinue, it grew a bit out of scope...
