After Layne's fiance, Demri, passes away, Layne finds a way out of the hole when he realizes the consequences of his actions. He is able to pick himself up and continue his love and passion for singing. Jerry is not so lucky. He's so far down in the hole that he gives up playing guitar and withdraws from everything and everybody, except for the needles. Despite his isolation, his friends never leave him, especially Olivia, the love of his life. Olivia and Layne love Jerry, but it gets harder and harder to be at his side when he wants to be left alone. He's no longer funny and witty. He's not just sad; he's depressed. He's not just angry, he's explosive. Those close to him only have so much strength before they'll have to carry on without him.

He doesn't remember much. He remembers waking up in a hospital, his head hurt and he was afraid. He can't remember his name or how he got there.
