So I read this fic ages ago but it wasn't complete and it hadn't been updated since 2014 and I really want to finish it so I decided to finish it myself, however, all credit for the idea and the first chapter goes to jaeparker on archiveofourown and their fic was called 'your graduation'.
This is their summary:
Michael and Gavin grew up together. Inseparable. best friends for life. Until One day Gavin just stops talking to Michael entirely. Right when Michael needs his best friend most, he's gone in an instant. Gavin leaves Michael to deal with school, growing up, and the loss of both of his parents alone.

I in no way claim any credit to the idea of this story, however all writing from chapter 2 onwards is entirely my own and I also edited the first chapter but the ideas are all based on the original story.

... that changes everything Sarah was starting her junior year of high school. Looking at herself in the mirror, she saw a pretty average blonde haired, blue eyed, teenager. She was neither in the popular group, nor one of the many cliched outsiders. Sarah was a nobody. She liked to blend in and lay low. It was her way out of not only this town, but her house. No one knew it, but her father was a high functioning alcoholic that often took his anger out on his family. With her older sister now in college, it had turned to her more often. Laying low in general was a good strategy. Across town, Ryan was prepping for his final year in high school. While he wasn't the stereotypical quarterback of the football team, he did fit into the popular crowd. His sports of choice included basketball and soccer, either of which might line him up for a scholarship next year. Ryan had a group of close friends and a lot of adoring acquaintances. It wasn't easy juggling his athletics and keeping the grades up, but he was just that good. The supporting parents didn't hurt either. It might be a cliché romance, but it will be fun to see what the year and beyond holds. ------------------------------------------ This is a story I wrote years ago, or at least partially wrote. As I transcribe it here, I have tried to update it a bit and give the characters/story more depth than what I had when I was younger. Hopefully it all gets pulled together!

She had a 5.8 GPA, and she took piano classes for fun, while he took it out of necessity. She was a threat to the palaces he had built at his school and he needed her gone. In the coming day, James finds out that Genesis is in love with his best friend Chad Douglas, a snobbish self-proclaimed alpha male vlogger. So he takes advantage of her obsession. James agrees to teach Genesis how to make Chad fall in love with her, and he gets to watch Chad break her heart so she leaves this school crying (but Genesis doesn't need to know that). He needs her gone. Or he thinks he does. Wait, damn was she always this hot? Is it the short dress he just bought for her, or is it just her? Wait, what was his goal again? Oh right, he needs her gone, pronto. * mature due to cursing and sexual scenes *

The Happy Ending by Malas1987

Marius switches schools at the beginning of his Junior year and meets Jae. Jae is attracted to Marius but is not accepting of these feelings, so he, instead, bullies and beats Marius. As the story progresses, Jae's mental health deteriorates, and life as he knows it falls apart. The people who ultimately pick up the pieces of Jae's broken self and helps him put them back together turn out to be people Jae never expected to stand up for him. Life turns out to be pretty alright. But, things are never what they seem. And for Jake, Jae's best friend, life is especially brutal. ***sad ending*** I do not condone violence or homophobia of any kind, nor am I intending on romanticizing them. This is a work of fiction, but it also serves to show how important mental health truly is. I am a big believer that the mind requires just as much care as the body, and that everyone deserves to pursue their happiness and be loved and accepted by the right people. I also keep editing, even after I've edited and published. It sucks editing your own stuff because mistakes keep popping up :( I'm relatively new with story writing, and I'll admit that it kind of sucks starting out, but please read! It's brutal and sad at times, and it will probably trigger some... A lot of... people, but it gets better! Or at least I feel it does.
