Eren thought it was just a joke when he wrote down Unicorn under the gender specific and sexual attraction part of his dorm forms. Apparently, that was not taken as a joke at Survey College of the arts for now, he was out in a secluded dorm room hallway with 20 other people all sexually identifying as something else or just unable to live with boy or girl dorm hall.
A short grumpy junior identifying as a helicopter/train and catching a erection at just the sight of either

And that was just the beginning, for Eren himself hated people like this but...To survive eight years of college, he would have to endure and possibly adapt to living as a straight male in a not so straight place.
Not to mention, his roommate is an attractive, crossdressing, no-gender Web designer that's the Dean of the hall with a spitfire attitude, a don't fuck with me aura, and a what the hell nickname.
