Cora Sophia Brookes is trying to "make it" in New York's Harlem in the 1920s. Although surrounded by artists, poets, and jazz musicians, her life is a far cry from the glitz and glamour of the Cotton Club. A struggling artist, she does not have time for love. Nor does she believe in magic. Even as a child, Cora knew that it was just a fairy tale. Why then, does she have moments where she feels as if someone is missing? Why does she have brief periods where she would swear magical creatures such as pixies exist, and that she has seen them? Why does she feel as if she has forgotten something very, very important?
