In a post-apocalyptic world, Kaylo Noon searches for a place to breathe in fresh air. There had been a drought... for two hundred years. The planet's water supply is nonexistent. Plants have become myths. Along with oxygen. There are less than ten million people left on Earth, surviving on air created by machines. Recycled air, only giving you enough to live. Kaylo wants more than that. Following in her deceased brother's footsteps, she decides to go in search of the Great Haven, which is supposedly on the other side of what used to be the Caribbean Sea. There's just one problem: She has to travel by foot. Kaylo sets out on her quest for the Great Haven, her only company memories, sand, and, oh, that team of scientists who is trying to kill her. Then her Carbon Shifter "malfunctions". She has a limited supply of air, and is beginning to feel like she, like her brother, was destined to die.
