Caius and his wife, Athenodora, come across a young girl who was involved in a hit and run on the streets of Volterra. Feeling a strong bond with the girl they just found, they take her back with them. When she wakes, it's discovered that she has amnesia and the only person who can see her memories are Aro, Caius' brother.
Athenodora has always wanted a child. Seeing as the girl has no memory, her and Caius decide to pose as her parents, hoping her memory won't come back.
Why do they feel a strong bond towards the girl? Will her memory come back? Will she survive in a castle full of vampires? How much trouble can a human get into in Volterra?
