It is 1864, and the War Between the States has brought combat to Desoto Parish, Louisiana. Seventeen-year-old farmer's daughter Luciana Lanton must try to find her father-or what is left of him-after the Battle of Mansfield. Instead of her father, she discovers a young Confederate soldier, Henry Asher, lost and forgotten after having been severely wounded in battle. Determined to not see another man die, she does her best to nurse the soldier back to health. It isn't long before she finds herself enamored by his winsome heart and controversial thinking, spiting society's definition of an ideal match. To complicate matters further, her mother insists that she instead be receptive to the attention of Beauregard Dozier, an unexpected but wealthy suitor with a questionable past, so as to ensure there is food on the family table. With her family's wellbeing at stake, will Lucy abide by sensibility or recklessly succumb to her heart's wishes, and will Beau's history intertwine with her future?
Inspired by civilian accounts of the Red River Campaign, Tattered Gray is a story of the devastating ramifications of war, life in a society both prejudiced and volatile, and the chance at an extraordinary love in spite of it all.

My other side was endangered servants from Ireland and my great-great-grandfather was, unfortunately, one of the soldiers that came to Indiana while serving under John Hunt Morgan. This book has been my pet project for years and I will not appreciate it if anyone trys stealing my work considering how I have all of the rough drafts written down on paper. I would be very angry in fact. Any drawings that might be shown will be mine. The book title came together with the help of my older brother who is quite good with titles while I am not great at figuring out book titles but am good at writing stories and chapter titles. The book title may be added on to in the future but only time will determine that. This is the first book of the series. Once again I would like to remind everyone the story is ALL MINE. In JOS I set the rogue and con-artist Harric against a foil of warriors in a land threatened by magic and civil war. Whenever possible I turn familiar tropes on their heads: instead of a handsome young Lancelot, I cast a broken-down ex-champion addicted to pain-killing herbs; instead of a dashing Squire Brian, the old knight reluctantly takes an ambitious young woman as squire. Similarly, I re-imagine the standard medieval milieu by infusing aspects of two of my favorite historical periods, Elizabethan England, and The American Frontier. Both eras boast a kind of nationalistic arrogance that borders on hubris, and a magnificent spirit of resourcefulness and re-invention that is fun to play with.
