The New Republic has finally won the war against the empire.  Force wielders and as such Ahsoka were valued again. 
There was a new threat lurking in the dark however. A threat more terrible then the empire.  A path of terrible destruction lay behind it. Destruction to the extent, that the source had ebandoned it and created a void around it. 
The dark side had the task to destroy the threat and as the New Republic would not be able to stand against it, the dark side had to create a power which could stand against that threat. 
And the dark side used Ahsoka to create that power. Obviously, it's plans extended beyond the mere destruction of that threat.
