Blanche St-Ouen is a premier dancer at the famous Moulin Rouge caberet at Montmarte in Paris. The dance is her life. She'd never thought of an alternate life until she met and fell in love with Marcel. Marcel sees his job as an animal handler at Moulin Rouge as just that, a job. He is in training to become a doctor so he can work for Medicin sans Frontieres in the Sudan. Blanche refuses to go with him.
