Rickard Baratheon is the true born son of Robert Baratheon and the Heir to Iron Throne. 

Being born into royalty didn't stop Rickard into becoming a warrior, something that made his father proud, despite his mother's wishes. Trained by the best swordsmen in Westeros; Ser Barristan Selmy and Ser Jaime Lannister, Rickard became a strong warrior known across The Seven Kingdoms. 

When Robert visited Winterfell, Rickard wasn't quite interested in that and tried to stay at King's Landing but his mother forced him to go, because she wanted him to keep his father in check. Upon meeting The Starks, and learning of the feast, Rickard was quite relieved that it was not going to be as dull as he believed. 

During his visit, Rickard met and befriended Robb and Jon who were the same age as he was, little did they know the turn of events that led to the conflict.
