All three fought for their country, and witnessed gruesome scenes in France. This is their story. The story of three men in war. This is part I: John Shelby. John just got married, and is 18 years old in 1914. But no honeymoon for John. John gets shipped off to France with his brothers. And this is what happened.

Harvey Ellis grew up in Small Heath, hearing the tales of the Peaky Blinders. Having been friends with the second youngest Shelby brother, Harvey finds himself becoming a Blinder. What he didn't know was that this would only anger his father more than he already was. Things got worse for him - with his confusion regarding his sexuality, it led to him seeking comfort in the only sister of the Shelby family after she cleaned his wounds. After one night spent together, Ada falls pregnant. Frightened, Ada begs that he stays despite not loving him. It is then that she finds out why he is hesitant to do so. Knowing it was a mistake from both ends, Harvey agreed to stay after Ada said she would keep his secret. And despite their attempts at being parents, Ada can't help but notice the way Harvey cannot let John Shelby go. And the way John looks at Harvey without even realising. Forcing herself to push it aside, she begins to understand properly what is happening. No words spoken - many exchanged glances - one story to be told. Although she shared the same brunette locks as her sister Ada and the same blue eyes as her brother Tommy, she did not share the same attitudes. Francesca was an anxious girl. And that only worsened when her brothers left for war. Her second eldest brother, Tommy, was a God in her eyes. She idolised him. Why? Nobody knew. But there was something about him. And for her.. Tommy loved her like she was his own daughter. They had a bond not even the strongest of men could destroy. They were cut from the same cloth. 𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐑, - Francesca finds that her closest and only friend, George, a boy who came from the richer side of Birmingham, had returned from the countryside. He was the type of boy all the girls would fawn over. Golden hair and blue eyes. Except, he didn't care for any of them. He cared for his best friend: Francesca Shelby. Or - Frances, as he called her. He was her only friend. Being older and, well, liked by most, he found it was his duty to look after her during such a hostile time. But they seemed to be blind to the fact that they were more than friends. In some way, they were more. They didn't know it but everybody else did.

𝐒𝐌𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝟏𝟗𝟐𝟎𝐬 was ruled by the Shelby family - or more so their gang. The Peaky Blinders were the infamous gang who earned their respect through the fear of the people. With the blades sewn into their flat caps and the weapons tucked into their jackets, people bowed their heads when passing them in the streets. You were considered lucky to have not had a run in with any of the three elder Shelby brothers. Arthur was the eldest. He was known for his fighting. You would often find him in the ring against somebody who was not his size. He went mad during the war and his return was nothing hit a relief for his mind. But when thinking he had finally escaped the war, one had started in his head. Arthur Shelby was his own enemy. Thomas was the second eldest - the most feared. He had a head for business and more common sense than his older brother. He had icy eyes which very rarely softened at the sight of anything. He was known for his trait of being unmerciful and careless. Despite being the second eldest, he was the brother who held the power. The brother who controlled the rest of them. John was the youngest of the three and arguably the softest. With his wonky smile and cheeky remarks, many of the girls in Small Heath found themselves falling at his feet. He would often find himself in trouble for acting childish. He didn't care too much for the business of the gang. He cared for the respect it brought their name. He enjoyed the thrill. And then you had John's twin sister - Francesca. Known for being one of the only Shelby siblings who seemed to laugh at Thomas. Her sister, Ada, being exactly the same. Francesca found that her brothers were ridiculous - too big for their boots as she'd say. Though she liked to use their name to get herself out of trouble. Francesca was often reckless and lacked the awareness one needed for the streets they lived in. She was her mother's daug
