"I'm so sorry," she said, but there was no fear in her voice. "I wasn't looking where I was going." I clenched my jaw. "You should have been." To my surprise, she didn't back down. "Well, maybe you should watch where you're going, too. It's not like I did this on purpose." I stopped, stunned. "Do you have any idea who you're speaking to?" Her eyes didn't flinch. "Yes, I do. And I don't care. I'm not going to stand here while you blame me." I was taken aback. Most people would've cowered, but she didn't. "Next time, be more careful," I said, colder now. "I will," she replied, "And maybe don't judge so quickly." ***** Zahra is a kind, fierce, and hardworking woman who is deeply dedicated to her religion. She is Azmira Ahmed Khan-daughter of the powerful Khan family of Pakistan, who lost her twelve years ago. Now, forced to return to a family she doesn't remember, Azmira is surrounded by warmth she doesn't know how to accept. Where they are open, she is guarded. Where they love, she pushes away. The Khan family is desperate to reclaim her, but she is still a girl raised in darkness. A girl haunted by a past that refuses to let go. Her parents assign her a bodyguard for protection. Zavian Raheel. Ex-military. Unshakable. And the one man she cannot stand. He treats her like a mission, not a person. He doesn't care about her walls, her anger, or the scars she refuses to talk about. But the more she fights him, the more he refuses to back down. And when the past she tried to escape comes hunting, Zavian is the only one standing between her and the life that nearly destroyed her. She never believed in love. Never trusted it.
