Hybris was named for the greek goddess of rebellion and insolence; as such, when she graduates high school, she leaves as a highly intelligent reject with a scholarship to an ivy league college and the disapproval of her parents and spoiled younger sister. The story begins with her graduation day, when she bids goodbye to everything she knows in favor of the harsh, adult world that awaits her beyond the prison she's been at for so long.

The only problem is this creepy house in the woods that she stumbles across when she leaves graduation early, diploma secured and her worries expounding. When the darkness settles in and she has no choice but to stay there to weather out the night, she wonders what might be lurking in the house: the nothingness of a century passed or something else...?
