When I Stole the ball and ran in the other direction, the same girl that was guarding me from the first time appeared on my left side. She elbowed me while "Reaching for the ball". She had a sly smirk on her face that I wanted to knock right off! As I neared the rim she ran in front of me and backpedaled, attempting to steal the ball. Her defense was just as bad as the first time we played this team so there was no way she was getting this ball. With four seconds left on the clock I pump faked, ducked from under her and took the shot, just as the buzzard rang. When I went for the shot though, big foot on my side here shoved me.
As the ball spun on the rim, everything was suddenly silent. I realized everything depended on this last shot. All of these years spent training with Dakota and my Daddy, endless hours of ball handling and the long nights in the gym running extra laps and practicing shots for every spot on the court all depended on this one shot. The one shot that would decide Dylan, Kai, and my own future. That moment was the longest second of my life.
