I've always wondered what went on in that strange building down the street. Normally, I'd disregard it, leaving my curiosity in the back of my mind; after all, I have much more serious things to tend to: specifically, The Hunt. With school finally out and my parents about to send me to that disgusting summer camp, now is the only time I have to even get close to winning. Every summer The Hunt takes place and I always lose, leaving the glory for some washed up sap with no life. Well, it's my turn to be the washed-up sap with no life! Mom and Dad keep saying there' no point, that it's not going to get me anywhere in life. Tell that to last year's winner who's globally famous and making millions on Instagram blogs.
This year is going to be trouble though. Before, it was new, lawless, and free. You could get away with anything. Now, the police are seriously cracking down: trespassing, public endangerment, you name it, they'll charge it.
The plan was foolproof! Or so I thought. We sneak in, we get what we need, and we get out. Simple.
Simple if Hayley didn't run. Simple if the cops didn't find us. Simple if I wasn't lying next to my unconscious best friend, Harold, as this mysterious figure welcomed us.
Now I'm stuck in a quiet, concealed building down a small street in the middle of nowhere with who knows who else!
Every day is something else: chores to do, strange people to entertain, complete with demanding Lead "Volunteers" breathing down my neck, just waiting for me to screw up.
I need to get out of here. We need to get out of here. I can't leave Harold and all these other "volunteers" here.
We all have different stories: lost during a game of hide and seek, tricked into summer internships, the list never ends. The one thing we have in common: we are trapped below the building with the vacant lot and the small sign that reads Young at Heart.
