hospital beds {remington leith short story}
13 parts Complete Kayla Coleman is terminal. Stage four thyroid cancer that now covers her whole body. She is unable to leave her hospital bed in Toronto. Some days, she loses consciousness. She is fed through a tube in her stomach and hydrated through her IV bag, since her cancer has left her unable to swallow. Her life is what some would call, pathetic.
Kayla's boyfriend Remington is always at her side. Rather on the days she's aware of her surroundings and able to communicate, the days she's unconscious most of the time, or the days she's comatose....he never fails to be there for the love of his life. Some days, he just does classwork on his computer and holds her hand....but his presence is appreciated, even though Kayla does not always have the ability to express so.
Remington, as well as Kayla's family, must cope with the fact that their time with their loved one is limited. Death stalks Kayla like a predator watching its prey....it is simply creeping closer and closer waiting for the chance to strike. Death has struck Kayla a few times already....on the operating table, in an elevator, while being held by Remington. It is only a matter of time before she is gone for good.
Her family, especially her boyfriend, are determined to make the most of her final earthly days. Because with Kayla....they never know when her time expires. There is no prediction for when she will leave this world; so they must treat every day as though it's her last.
They're trying to give Kayla the world from her lonely hospital bed.
