Princess Ilami hates making decisions, which is fine because her older brother Edur makes them all for her. When the last heir to the enemy kingdom falls into her hands, Ilami must choose between loyalty to her family, her kingdom, and the lives of hundreds of innocent people.

The servant Tikani has too many decisions to make. Not only is she committed to protecting Ilami from any danger, she has a personal plan for revenge.

King Edur can never outgrow the shadow of his parents' death. Torn between his father's unflinching commands and his mother's legacy of kindness, it feels he will never be taken seriously as a king. To make matters worse, it is entirely up to him to keep Princess Ilami safe in the castle.
