In the quite small country of Belgium, Calcifer is starting his first full year at a American based High School on a NATO base. He's been tried long and hard through his time here and finds that even if he was hoping for a relaxing time this year he was not going to get it. As our story begins weeks into the term he finds things are not over for him and that he is still far from whatever goal he finally decides to work towards.
