She's the last of her kind to survive the operations that the Galra have put her and her race through. She is their weapon that will be used against Voltron, only if they get under control. That's proven a lot more harder. 

  When the Paladins of Voltron attack a Galra Base that set its home on a planet they find that everything is deserted. Or at least that's what they believed before Shiro found a mysterious women inside of a cell fully chained and sleeping.

So the spiral light at the center of the universe was shattered into 9 shards and the universe has been in chaos ever since. Because the spiral light shattered, the Crystal Core was formed, and the Galra have been invading peaceful planets to them more power for the empire, and all that stuff. So Crystal Bearers are sent out on missions, freeing captured planets, freeing prisoners, recruiting new Crystal Cadets, stopping space piracy and other junk like that. I don't want to spoil anything else, so you have to read the book to find out what happens!
