The sun used to be a medium sized star. Now it is a red giant that swallowed our home planet, Earth. Most people knew this was coming and escaped and started a colony somewhere. They were not alone.

The Day We Left Earth
If we stayed there any longer, we would have died. Earth was no longer our home, but instead a barren waste land from which we had to escape. Its calm blue oceans were replaced by big empty pits, and the green grass which used to cover our planet has now died, leaving all ground we tread on brown. The sun was getting too close to earth. The planets were all doing what they usually did. Sun talking with Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars playing solar cards, Jupiter and Saturn talking, Uranus writing in his diary, Neptune talking to asteroids, etc. that was until, they all passed out.
