Phoebe fell asleep in her homeless shelter, sleeping on a mattress that was placed on the floor, with her dad sleeping in the same room as her. One minute, she was falling asleep, another minute she was shot by a man whose identity was hidden, except for a large scar on his arm that held his gun. 
But she woke up, after she was shot fatally by the mysterious man. She woke up not as Phoebe, but as Beth, a princess awaiting suitors. She woke up in a king-size bed with marble floor and a silk nightgown, and not her teared old shirt, and baggy pants that didn't fit her.
Once Phoebe, now Beth, she respawned in virtually the opposite world that she once lived in.
