Alyson "Alyss" Harper is considered a "freak" in school. She has major anger issues and a secret. At home, her mother drinks and drinks and refuses to go to work. So Alyss is forced to get her own job, putting whatever social life she could've had on the back-burners. She has issues with trust and is so incredibly stubborn that she feels no man could ever do her any good.
Jake Miles is a kid of rich background whose parents want him to be just like them. Unfortunately Jake doesn't want to be like them. So, they turn to his younger brother Charlie who is up for the task. Jake loses any love his parents used to give him and he gives up trying. Now all he does is play his guitar and hook up with women that mean nothing to him.
One day he meets a girl that changes everything. She doesn't take shit from anybody and if anyone tries to take her down she will take her revenge. He becomes smitten, but will her secret ruin their chances at love?

Sammi, a mean, catty, popular girl who has the hots for James, tries everything in her power to ruin Emma. After a bunch of run ins with the both of them, Sammi makes up a rumor about James, insinuating it was Emma who started it. James watches Emma embarrass herself on multiple different occasions, And still wont explain why he is upset with her. But, after Sammi gets a football player to put a cockroach in Emma's hair in class, Emma runs out to leave. She then runs into James, who Offers to give her a ride home.
